The Batteryfiles Privacy Manifesto
Last Updated: June 28, 2026
We build for battery engineers, not advertisers. We reject surveillance capitalism.
At Batteryfiles, we provide hard-core, offline-capable technical data and software for the global battery industry. We believe that your research and engineering workflows are your proprietary assets. Therefore, our business model is simple: we sell high-value engineering resources, not your data. We do not use advertising trackers, we do not engage in behavioural profiling, and our underlying analytics data is configured to permanently self-destruct after 60 days.
Introduction
This Privacy Policy (the “Policy”) explains how Batteryfiles (referred to as “we,” “us,” “our,” or the “Company”), a sole proprietor based in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), collects, uses, stores, and protects your personal data when you access or use our website batteryfiles.com (the “Site”) and purchase our digital products.
We provide our services globally and strictly comply with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486) of the HKSAR, as well as the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for our European clients.
1. Notice to European Residents (GDPR Compliance)
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA), you have specific rights regarding your personal data under the GDPR. Our legal basis for processing your data is the performance of a contract (delivering your purchased digital goods) and our legitimate business interests (preventing fraud and ensuring site security).
Your GDPR rights include:
- The Right to Access & Portability: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you in a structured, machine-readable format.
- The Right to Erasure (“Right to be Forgotten”): Request the deletion of your personal data, subject to our legal tax retention obligations.
- The Right to Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data.
- The Right to Restrict Processing & Object: Object to our processing of your data.
2. Types of Personal Data We Collect
We practice Data Minimisation. We only collect what is strictly necessary to deliver our digital products and secure your transactions.
- Account Registration & Transaction Data: When you register or purchase a product, we collect your full name, email address, billing address, and transaction history. (Note: We do not store full credit card details. All payments are processed securely by enterprise-grade gateways like Stripe or PayPal).
- User Content Uploads: If you upload text or images to the Site (e.g., support tickets, forum posts), we store this “User Content.”
- Automatically Collected Data (Strictly Limited): When you browse the Site, we collect basic, non-identifiable data (IP address, browser type, pages visited) strictly for debugging and basic traffic analysis. We do not use advertising pixels (e.g., Meta Pixel, Google Ads Tracking).
3. How We Use Your Personal Data
We use your data exclusively for legitimate operational purposes:
- To deliver services: To grant access to your purchased digital downloads and manage your account.
- To process payments: To facilitate secure checkout and prevent fraudulent transactions.
- To comply with legal obligations: To meet tax and accounting regulatory requirements.
- To communicate: To send essential account updates, receipts, and technical support replies.
To exercise these rights, please contact us at [email protected]. We will process your request within 30 days.
4. Strict Data Retention Policy
We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes outlined in this Policy.
- Automatically Collected Analytics Data: Retained for a maximum of 60 days (2 months). After this period, all user-level event data and identifiers are automatically and permanently deleted from our analytics servers.
- Transaction Data: Retained for 7 years to comply strictly with tax and accounting laws in the HKSAR.
- Account Data: Retained as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will anonymise or delete your data immediately, except for transaction records required by law.
5. Disclosure of Your Personal Data
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Data is only shared with trusted infrastructure providers required to operate our business (e.g., payment gateways, secure cloud hosting). These providers are contractually bound to strict confidentiality and GDPR compliance. We may also disclose data if legally compelled by a court order or regulatory authority.
6. Cookies and Consent Mode
We use cookies strictly to enhance your browsing experience (e.g., keeping your shopping cart active) and for basic, anonymous traffic measurement.
- Our Site is integrated with Google Consent Mode v2.
- If you choose to “Reject” cookies via our consent banner, we respect your digital sovereignty. Analytical tags will be blocked from firing, and only “Strictly Necessary” cookies required for checkout will remain active.
7. Intellectual Property and User Content
All logos, trademarks, text, original content, software, and proprietary battery/BMS data files on the Site are the exclusive intellectual property of Batteryfiles. You retain ownership of any feedback or User Content you upload, granting us a non-exclusive license to use it for operating and improving the Site.
8. Global Business and Cross-Border Data Transfer
As a global platform, your data may be processed in jurisdictions outside your country of residence (including the HKSAR and secure US/EU cloud servers). We ensure all cross-border data transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) where applicable under the GDPR.
9. Children’s Privacy
Our Site provides highly technical B2B engineering resources and is not intended for individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors.
